Project Overview: Lanyubao Village, Sanlipu Township, Tianzhen County, is located in the low-lying center of Datong-Tianyang Basin with a shallow groundwater table. It is a typical representative of severe soda-salinized soil. The soil exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) exceeds 40%, and the pH is above 9.5, with strong alkalinity making improvement difficult. It used to be a saline-alkali wasteland where not a single blade of grass grew and had never been cultivated in history.
Research Objectives: The team used chemical conditioners such as desulfurized gypsum and DS-1997, combined with technologies like plastic film mulching, drip irrigation under film, ridge and furrow planting, and cultivation of salt-tolerant varieties. After three years of improvement, the once barren saline-alkali wasteland has been turned into fertile farmland. The corn yield reached 10345.5 kg/ha, the soil pH dropped to around 7.8, the salt content decreased by about 50%, and the soil organic matter increased by more than 30%, creating a miracle in the improvement of extremely severe saline-alkali land.
