Academician Xu Minggang has long been engaged in scientific research on cultivated land quality improvement, leading the establishment of China's long-term positioned experimental network for cultivated land quality. Addressing major soil degradation challenges in Chinese farmland—such as low soil organic matter content and intensified acidification—he innovatively proposed theories and key technologies for the quantitative enhancement of soil organic matter and classified prevention and control of red soil acidification.

His outstanding scientific achievements include receiving four National Science and Technology Progress Awards (Second Class) and five first-class awards at the ministerial or provincial level. He has published 368 papers as the first or corresponding author (including 119 SCI papers) and authored 8 monographs. Additionally, he has been honored with the inaugural "Agricultural Science Award" of the Zhou Guangzhao Foundation, the National Innovation and Pioneering Award, and the Glinka World Soil Award of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The Academician Xu Minggang Workstation is an important scientific research platform established through a collaboration between Dongda Soil Technology Co., Ltd and Academician Xu Minggang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. On January 13, 2025, upon recommendation by the Yangquan City Association for Science and Technology and approval by the Shanxi Provincial Association for Science and Technology, it was established as the first academicians' workstation in the agricultural field in Shanxi Province. The workstation aims to lead industrial innovation through scientific and technological innovation, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and further leverage the research outcomes of Academician Xu Minggang and his team in soil health and soil fertility improvement. Led by Academician Xu Minggang, the workstation gathers over 50 experts from various fields and conducts joint research in collaboration with institutions such as Shanxi Agricultural University and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Its research focuses on key areas including contaminated soil remediation, mining area reclamation, saline-alkali soil improvement, and fertility enhancement. Through the accumulation of authoritative experimental data, verification of field application effects, and breakthroughs in key technologies by the academicians' workstation, Dongda Soil will transform cutting-edge scientific research results into highly efficient and precise soil conditioner products, providing customers with scientific soil health solutions.

  • The Academician Workstation Experiment Center is located on the ninth and tenth floors of the comprehensive office building. It focuses on cutting-edge research in the field of agricultural resources and environment, and has planned a series of advanced research units, including artificial climate rooms, small-scale fertilizer laboratories, microbial analysis rooms, strain cultivation rooms, physical testing laboratories, and ultrapure water rooms. The center is equipped with more than 80 advanced domestic and international experimental instruments, with a total projected investment of 50 million yuan. Once completed, the center will systematically support full-chain research activities from basic mechanisms to product development, providing key technological platform support for academic teams and major research projects.
  • Workshop 7 in the park is a standardized production workshop with a floor height of 8 meters and a usable area of 4,000 square meters. It is equipped with complete infrastructure, including water, heating, electricity, and ventilation, and has multiple industrial demonstration lines for high-quality bio-composite nano soil conditioners, bio-fertilizers, and water-soluble fertilizers. It can undertake pilot incubation, process verification, and scaled trial production. The total investment is expected to be 20 million yuan, aiming to promote the rapid transformation of new agricultural fertilizers and technologies from laboratory research to industrial application.
  • The project is located in Dong Village, Xiyan Town, Yuxian County, Shanxi Province, with a planned total area of 32.6 ha. It focuses on soil improvement technologies and the transformation of their results, with an emphasis on four major functional areas: a 7.97 ha facility agriculture demonstration zone; a 15.78 ha high-standard demonstration farmland; an 5.87 hasoil fertility cultivation and enhancement experimental field; and a 3 ha organic early crop green high-yield field. Building on these areas, the project will systematically carry out integrated soil improvement technologies, validate soil fertility cultivation models, evaluate the application of new fertilizers and agronomic measures, and demonstrate high-yield, efficient planting, creating a replicable and promotable comprehensive solution for regional soil health and agricultural development.
  • With the support of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the workstation has established this exchange center using the 200-square-meter space of its library. The center aims to create an international academic exchange hub for Yangquan City and the workstation in the field of soil health, promote the translation of high-level scientific research achievements and talent introduction, and strengthen international scientific and technological cooperation. The center will undertake core functions such as hosting international conferences, showcasing academic achievements, facilitating technical cooperation, and attracting high-end talent, continuously promoting the practical application of high-level scientific research results and enhancing regional and international scientific and technological cooperation capabilities.
